The Life Intended

With poise our hearts are filled with peace

With every breath all pain does cease

With eyelids shut we see much more

With every bite we savour all

With every step we leave the chains

With every turn our lenses change

With each new dawn our minds are cleansed

Is this the life our world intends?

Contented?

I learned to taste life fully

I thought I’d try it all

I tried to venture further

And break down every wall

I savoured every morsel

I chewed it through and through

I tried to live life fully

With every bite I grew

Vision of hope

When they inherit the Earth

We could tell the story of

The lies that blinded us to truth

The lessons learned on mistaken turns

We can tell the story of

The day the smog was cleared

And our lungs could freely fill

When they inherit the Earth

We can tell a story of

The day the butterflies

Could once more dance and flutter

Absolved of deadly threats

When they inherit the Earth

We can tell a story of

Every rainbow colour standing

Proudly heart in heart

We can tell them all about the day

Our minds abruptly wakened

To all the planet’s colours

Flowing from a single fountain

Miss Labelled

“Odd” – because I stand out from the crowd

“Weird” – because my tastes are not like yours

“Dysfunctional” – because my emotions cloud all else (at times)

“Fussy” – because I choose silence over chatter

“Stupid” – because it takes time to process your speech

“Lazy” – because reading stories is effortful

“Unfriendly” – because fake smiles are lost on me

“Unsociable” – because my own space is sacrosanct

Are these the labels you use to judge?

To deride, to define, to undermine?

Is there another way to see?

And challenge the things you think you see?
